Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys

Brian Stillman - Founder, Producer, Director

Brian Stillman started X-Ray Films in 2013 in order to produce and direct documentaries about pop-culture. His first movie, Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys, came out in 2014. He followed it up with the documentary Eye of the Beholder: The Art of Dungeons & Dragons in 2019. Both are available through a variety of streaming services. He's a producer on the hit Netflix docu-series The Toys That Made Us, and has also produced documentary segments, live events, and progressive advertising for a variety of companies. Before that, Brian worked as both a print and broadcast journalist, providing national coverage for everything from breaking news to the arts to politics.

Brian makes movies about the stuff he loves. He's an avid gamer; he began playing Dungeons  & Dragons and other roleplaying games back in the early Eighties, and still runs a weekly D&D game with friends, as well as running games at conventions. He's a toy collector, focusing on vintage robots and space toys from the 1940s through the 1960s, as well as action figures from the Seventies and Eighties; he also collects original science fiction and fantasy artwork, comic books, and original props from Star Trek and other series and movies.

Brian lives in New York City with his wife, the animator and roller derby Jeerleader Mary Hawkins, and their cat Calamity.
